Urgent and Emergency Care for Sick or Injured Pets

When your pet is sick or hurt, the only thing you want to do is help them feel better. But it can be difficult to find a same-day appointment during business hours. That’s why at Northside Paws Veterinary Care we reserve space each day for urgent care appointments.

Sick and Injured Pet Appointments

If your pet gets sick or injured during our business hours, call us right away. We can treat many sick pet cases with same-day appointments at our veterinary center. But if we feel your pet needs specialized emergency care, we’ll point you in that direction instead.

We encourage you to provide as many details as you can about what your pet is experiencing when you call us for a same-day appointment. This can help us set the clinic up to begin treatment immediately after you arrive.

We’ll start with a physical exam and in-depth diagnostics. Once we understand more about what’s causing your pet’s discomfort, we’ll provide the appropriate treatment and supportive care.

This may include stabilizing any wounds or injuries, providing IV fluids, prescribing medications from our in-house pharmacy, or recommending pain medication, cold laser therapy, and other pain management modalities.

Remember: your pet is part of our family, too. We’ll do everything we can to help him or her feel better as soon as possible.

Signs Your Pet is Sick or Injured

Even though they can’t talk, our pets give us several signs that indicate they’re sick or in pain. These signs can include:

  • Licking, biting, or scratching a certain part of the body
  • Frequent, agitated vocalization
  • Squinting or rubbing the eyes
  • Panting
  • Restlessness
  • Lethargy
  • Behavior changes
  • Loss of appetite
  • Change in potty habits
  • Vomiting or having diarrhea more than a few times in 24 hours

If you notice any of these signs of distress, reach out to us right away. The same goes if you suspect your pet has ingested something poisonous or sustained an injury.
